Vocal Cord Nodules – Final update

After suffering for over 2 years, leaving my telephone based job, attending hours 0f speech therapy and cutting down my gigs, my Vocal Cord Nodules have finally began to decline in size. However, the damage they have left is permanent.

A lot of people have asked if it can be fixed, the answer is no. Its liking breaking a bone, it will heal but it will never be as strong. This is the same for my voice, my voice is back, but it can’t last as long as it used to.

F0r my singing this means i can only manage 1 gig per week – Anything more will cause more permanent damage if not costing me my voice altogether.

This news has been very difficult for me to accept but, i trust that it has happen for a reason.

On 28th May 2011, Jennifer performed her new song “Murderer” and a cover of Rihanna’s “S&M” at the Evolution Festival, supporting acts such as Tinie Tempah, Katy B, Iggy Pop and Plan B!

Gig cancellations due to Nodules

Following on from my previous post regarding ‘Gig cancellations due to Nodules’. All my gigs from December – Febuary have been cancelled. I am unable to perform due to nodules on my voicebox and will review the situation again at the end of February. I am sorry for the inconvenice this has caused.

Gig cancellations due to Nodules

As some of you may know, I have been suffering with Chronic Laryngitis since the beginning of 2010, unfortunately my condition as worsened and I now have Nodules.

Nodules are symmetric, broad-based masses which occur at the midpoint of both vocal folds. This has been caused due to physical stresses on my vocal fold which occur with heavy voice use. Nodules are a well-known problem of professional and amateur singers and with me also working full time in a call centre – I have certainly over-used my voice.

What this means: Operating is not an option with me being a singer so my choice is to continue call centre work and singing – risk loosing my voice all together. Or take a complete break from both for at least 3 months and see if I can soften the nodules to a point of recovery.

I have chosen to try and save my voice. So, the following gigs (and likely many more to follow) have been cancelled:

13/11/10 – Spittal Jubilee Club, Berwick-on-Tweed
14/11/10 – Wallsend Coronation Club, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
21/11/10 – Newburn Memorial Club, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
